This thesis describes the 10 steps used to conveniently synthesize Tetrahydroxy-LCB with an overall yield of 12%. The Dess-Martin reaction was employed effectively, followed by functional group transformations, to produce a Tetrahydroxy-LCB compound at the absolute stereochemistry for carbon skeletons. A alfa-GalCer analogue was synthesized from reactive galactosyl iodide donors and Tetrahydroxy-LCB derivative.
