In the past thirty years, most researches focused on the relationship between the degree of internationalization and Macs performance. However, these empirical studies produced inconsistent results. Previous researchers not only explored the linear and non-linear relationship between the degree of internationalization and MNCs performance, but also the moderating effect between the two variables and the driven forces of firm's internationalization. Nevertheless, these studies could only partialy explained inconsistent results, and often ignored the mediating effect. Thus, this study reveals the black box between the degree of internationalization and MNCs performance, and explored the potential mediating effect. MNCs often established relationship with local networks, to build up a network base and to reach new network in the process of firm's internationalization. These network relationships enabled MNCs to overcome the liability of internationalization, and supplied MNCs numerous resources. The network resources from firm's internationalization were advantageous and profitable and would hence improve the performance of MNCs. MNCs internationalization would indirectly influence performance through network resources. Therefore, we explored whether the network resources (i.e. internal network resources and external network resources) had a mediating effect on the relationship between the degree of internationalization and MNCs performance. From resource base and network resource views, this study examines the mediating effect of different network resources form (i.e. internal network resources range, internal network resources strength, external network resources range, and external network resources strength). Empirical samples were taken from 2003 database of department of statistics, ministry of economic affairs, and structural equation model was used to analyse 1,362 samples. The empirical results found that MNCs internationalization would positive influence MNCs operational performance through internal network resource range, and would positive influence SUBs financial performance through external network resource range. In addition, MNCs internationalization would negative influence SUBs financial performance through internal network resource range. The empirical results found that internal network resource range has different mediating effect between the degree of internationalization and MNCs performance. This study made use of the mediator, understanding the importance of network resource between the degree of internationalization and MNCs performance. Therefore, we make up the gap of mediating effect between the two variables, and hence provided a new dimension of research for future scholars in the field of international business management.
