Functional brain researches let us know how our brains react to outside stimulation using various modalities. Through millions of years of evolution, human neural system evolve into a very elaborate system today. It help us do complex works such as dancing or calculation with perfect ease. However, this complexity also causes huge difficulty to realize how brain works. With the invention of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), a new approach for researching our mind was developed at 1990s, It is called Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) . In this research, we attempted to find out how lasting effect of brain hemodynamic response may influence the results of functional data analysis. Comparing to normal tasks, certain stimulation (e.g. acupuncture) had much longer lasting effect on brain even when the stimulation was removed. All examinations were performed on a GE Excite II 1.5T MRI Unit at China Medical University Hospital, Taichung. All functional data sets were analyzed through SPM2 (Statistical Parametric Mapping) which is perform under Matlab7.01. The delayed hemodynamic response also causes unexpected result in data analysis.
