α-Galactosylceramides are well known as immunostimulating agents having therapeutic potential. In recent years, a wide variety of different synthetic strategies have been explored in optimising the synthesis of α-Galactosylceramides. In this thesis, the total synthesis of O-6 and hydroxylated analogues of α-Galactosylceramide were accomplished in 10%-18% and 9%-14% overall yields in nine and six steps, respectively, from the acetonide-protected D-lyxose.
