雞球蟲症是家禽產業最重要的疾病,使用化學藥物防治球蟲症仍是主要策略但衍生的抗藥性與藥物殘留問題,使歐盟原預計於西元2013 年禁止使用球蟲藥作為飼料添加物。研究和發展新型且安全的抗球蟲添加劑,同時避免藥物殘留問題益顯重要。我們實驗室先前已經研究並證明,利用一菊科植物於飼料添加能改善雞隻死亡,體重流失與病變,減少球蟲卵囊排放;我們進而想要了解此菊科植物如何產生抗球蟲效果。在體外實驗觀察芽孢化,在活體內觀察其生活史與型態的變化,以及對宿主腸道型態及免疫之影響。結果顯示此菊科植物能抑制球蟲卵囊芽孢化,餵食此菊科植物飼料能縮短球蟲生活史,促進世代轉換,改善黏膜完整程度與減少炎症反應。利用致病力與免疫保護力試驗,進一步觀察此菊科植物飼料其對球蟲族群的影響,發現其增加早熟株的數量於雞隻排放之球蟲卵囊。據我們所知,這是嶄新的抗球蟲機制,而這樣的結果揭示了此菊科植物飼料在現場應用的極高潛力。

Coccidiosis caused by Eimeria spp. is the parasitic disease that has the greatest economic impact on the poultry industry; prophylactic chemotherapy is dominated strategies to control the disease. However, with the increasing concerns about drug resistance and residue, anticoccidial drugs as feed additives were prohibited in the EU on 2013. Thus, to develop alternatives capable of maintaining animal health without negative effects mentioned above is necessary. The anticoccidial effect of an Asteraceae plant contained feed (AP) has been demonstrated in our laboratory. We further investigated the anticoccidial mechanism(s) of the AP. The sporulation rate, life cycle and morphology of E. tenella; and the mucosal morphology and inflammatory response of chickens were observed. Consequently, the AP aqueous solution inhibits the sporulation of E. tenella; and the AP shortens the life cycle and accelerates the endogenous development of E. tenella. The mucosal morphology and inflammatory response of chickens with AP were ameliorated. Furthermore, the pathogenicity and immunogenicity assay display the AP increases the populations of precocious line. To our knowledge, it is a novel mechanism that of anti-coccidia. The results also indicated that AP has a great potential on field application.
