由台灣地區母草屬(Lindernia)植物的分類研究結果,共紀錄台灣與各離島總計16種,其中寬葉母草(L. nummularifolia)為本島之新紀錄種,圓葉母草(L. rotundifolia)為新歸化種。而台南見風紅(L. scutellariiformis) 因大陸貴州亦有分布,則處理為非台灣特有種植物;尖果母草(L. hyssopioides)、見風黃(L. mollis)、擬泥花草(L. vitacea)列為排除種,因目前並未發現分布於台灣。另外,包含兩種僅產於離島金門的種類,其中稜萼母草(L. oblonga)為當地新紀錄種,而金門母草(L. kinmenensis)擬為新種。
外部形態方面,葉脈、前一對雄蕊形態、萼片、蒴果等為母草屬植物的重要分類特徵;另外種子形態亦可作為分類鑑定之參考。在花粉形態上,均為三溝粒,形狀或外壁雕紋在種間差異不大,僅能作為分類的輔助特徵。在生態或地理分布上,大多數種類產於台灣海拔1,000公尺以下地區,生育環境以開闊溼地或林下為主。
分子研究上,使用葉綠體DNA上之trnL/F、 rps16、matK序列對於台灣產母草屬植物進行親緣關係研究,所有分析物種經排序後各得到3190 bp的資料。經分析後,可以發現母草屬分為兩大支系,並且包含倒地蜈蚣屬(Torenia)及Craterostigma等屬,可見Lindernia並非單源群。此兩大分支與葉脈三出脈或羽狀脈、種子平滑具皺摺或表面具有凹孔的特徵為一致。由研究結果分析後所建構的樹狀圖中,可知Bonnya節、Brachycarpae節、Tittmannia節、Torenioides節為支持度極高的單系群,而倒地蜈蚣屬則位於分支當中,與台南見風紅關係相近,且與Torenioides節互為姐妹群。

The genus Lindernia (Scrophulariaceae) in Taiwan is taxonomically revised based on the morphological, palynological, ecological, and molecular biological studies respectively. Sixteen speices of this genus are indigenous to Taiwan. In Taiwan island, there include 1 new recorded species, L. nummularifolia, 1 new naturalized species, L. rotundifolia. Three species, L. hyssopioides, L. mollis, and L. vitacea, are treated as the excluding speices, and L. scutellariiformis is considered as a not endemic speices of Taiwan island. In Kinmen island, there include 1 new specice, L. kinmenensis, 1 new recorded species, L. oblonga.
The morphology of venation, posterior stamens, calyx, and capsule are the most useful characters of classification for those plants in Taiwan. Morphology of seeds are also provided the important evidences for classifying the Lindernia plants. For a palynological study, the pollen grains of all Taiwan speices of this genus were tricolpate. Their sizes and sculpture characters are similar in most speices and could only be applied as the accessory characters for their taxonomic studies. Most species distribute chiefly in the areas bellow 1,000 m in altitude and grow in an open wet meadows, marshy areas or forests of Taiwan.
For a molecular phylogenetic study, the trnL/F, rps16, and matK intron sequencing of chloroplast DNA are analyzed. Totally, 3190 bp sequencing data are obtained from three markers. Lindernia is not a monophyletic group because there are two separate lineages shown in cladogram. One clade consists two sections: Brachycarpae and Lindernia; the other includes other sections, and the two genera: Torenia, Craterostigma. It is shown that the Lindernia is not a nature group. In morphology, the two lineages could be classified by the venation and morphology of seed-coat. The former lineage has 3-nerved venation and rugate seed-coat, while the latter has a pinnately nerved venation and scrobiculate seed-coat with many projections. L. scutellariiformis belonging to the section Setulosa is related to the genus Torenia with the section Torenioides as a sister group.
