本研究藉由觀察笠螺(limpet)外殼形態、軟體各部位顏色、顎板(jaw)形態、齒舌軟骨(odontophore)、齒舌囊(radula sac)的長度與配置以及齒舌(radula)的形態等特徵,做為分類台灣岩岸潮間帶笠螺的依據,並進行笠螺地區群集之研究。結果記錄潮間帶笠螺3科5屬22種,其中3種為未知種。在這些笠螺中,多數物種的外殼形態具有高度的種內變異,因此,單以殼的形態做為分類依據容易產生困擾或錯置。由於齒舌囊的長度與配置以及齒舌的形態具有種內穩定性和種間差異性,本研究認為這兩項特徵可以做為物種鑑定的依據。在笠螺物種的地區群集分析方面,結果顯示,台灣潮間帶笠螺可以分成2個主要群集:蘭嶼群集與台灣群集(包含澎湖),其中分別有3個與10個亞群集。形成這些群集現象的原因,推論是各地區的洋流形態、岩石種類與棲地類型,以及海水溫度的差異所致。

Taxonomic study, as well as local assemblages of intertidal limpets occurred on rocky shores of Taiwan were conducted. In the taxonomic study, several characters such as shell morphology, coloration of body parts, structure of jaw, odontophore, length and configuration of radula sac and radula formula were applied. As a result, the present study recorded 3 families, 5 genera and 22 species, excluding 3 unknown species of limpets from Taiwan waters. Of these 22 species, many showed a wide variation in shell morphology. It is easily to misidentify the close resembling species by using only shell morphology. The present study suggests using length and configuration of radula sac and formation of radula as proper characters for species identification, due to the stability and species specific nature of the characters. The analysis on the local assemblage of intertidal limpets occurred on rocky shores of Taiwan reveal 2 major clusters, the Orchid Island cluster and the Taiwan cluster, which can be further divided into 3 subclusters and 10 subclusters, respectively. It is proposed that oceanic current, rock formation and types of habitat and seawater temperatures may involve in shaping the local assemblage of rocky intertidal limpet in Taiwan.
