The Breeding of Pot Hibiscus Rosa-Chinesis (III)
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is native in China. Through crossed with other species of hibiscus, it is developed as an important garden flowering shrub. Recently, it was developed to be an indoor pot flower in Europe, and was highly ranked for its market potential. However, European cultivars are small flowers and can't flower in summer in Taiwan and Japan. We have collected about 60 cultivars from Europe and Asian and Pacific areas. In this project, new cultivars with free branching, large flowers and tolerant to shading and higher temperature will be bred for Taiwan and Japan market.
