腸病毒71型自1998年在台灣爆發以來,每年春季自夏季台灣均會爆發腸病毒感染,有些會產生嚴重症狀甚至死亡,分離之病毒株主要為腸病毒71型及克沙奇 (coxsackievirus) A、B型,迄今尚無臨床上可對抗之藥物。我們先前於台灣藥用植物之抗腸病毒活性篩選之結果顯示出,台灣山豆根 [Euchresta formosana (Hayata) Ohwi] 有非常好抗腸病毒71型活性。其生長於台灣600公尺以上山地,為民間傳統藥用植物,用於止痛、消炎、解毒及治療毒蛇咬傷等,亦為衛生署列為食品使用之原料。本研究擬探討台灣山豆根抗腸病毒 71型及克沙奇B3型活性,並探討其對宿主細胞之免疫調節作用。對腸病毒抑制活性之分析項目包括50%病毒抑制濃度及作用時間點分析等;對宿主細胞調節作用分析之項目包括IFN-α、IL-1β、IL-2、IL-6、TNF-α等細胞激素及NO含量測定。

A great outbreak of enterovirus infection occurred in Taiwan in 1998. Up to now, the infection of enterovirus occur annually in Taiwan. Some of them caused severe complications and fatality. The enterovirus 71 (EV71) and coxsackievirus A, B (CVA, CVB) were the most common isolates. Unfortunately, there is no available anti-enterovirus agents for clinical use. With our previous studies of anti-enerovirus activity of Tanwanese medicinal plants, we found Euchresta formosana (Hayata) Ohwi exhibited strong anti-EV 71 activity. Euchresta formosana grows on the hight higher than 600 m of mountain in Taiwan. Traditionally, this plant was used for the reductions of pains, inflammation, and detoxicity. Notably, it is an food ingredient. In this study, we investigate anti-EV71 and CVB activities of Euchresta formosana and its immune modulation. The items for the determination of anti-enterovirus activity include 50% inhibitory concentrations and time-kill assay as well as the interleukins and NO determinations for the immune modulation.
