The main objective of this study is to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of particulate emissions from a heavy-duty diesel engine equipped with diesel particulate filter, using different fuels, and operating under various driving conditions. The test conditions include B1(S50) fuel as a baseline, low sulfur content fuel B1(S10), blending 10 % biodiesel fuel B10, B1(S50) fuel with diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), and B1(S50) fuel with diesel particulate filter (DPF). The driving conditions simulate US FTP transient cycle and steady-state with idle, low-speed, medium-speed, and high-speed steady-state cruise. In this study, mass concentration of PM and PM2.5, organic/elemental carbon, water-soluble ions, and trace metallic elements were measured.
The transient results show the PM emission factor for B1(S50) is 0.166
