In recent years, optical code-division multiple-access (O-CDMA) techniques have been attracting attention for fiber optic communication systems. In this thesis, we propose and analyze an OOK “diversity” O-CDMA scheme, which transmits multiple copies of a code per data bit of one in order to improve code performance at the expense of transmission bandwidth. An approximation performance model is also derived for quick computation and comparison with the conventional O-CDMA scheme. Our results show that the diversity scheme reduces the error probability with little degradation of the spectral efficiency, under the assumption of similar code parameters, code power, and bandwidth expansion as the conventional scheme.
