This paper deals with the optimal design of passive tuned mass dampers
(PTMDs) to reduce the dynamic responses of torsionally-coupled buildings under
bi-lateral earthquake excitations. Some practical design issues such as the
optimal installed locations and moving direction of PTMDs are considered. The
optimal PTMD's system parameters are determined by minimizing the meansquare
displacement response ratio of the controlled DOF between the building with and
without PTMDs. In addition, the parametric studies about the PTMD's planar
position and effect of detuning are investigated to realize their influence on
the response control efficacy. In order to reduce the structural responses when
a building subjected to bi-lateral earthquakes, the necessity of a second PTMD
and its optimum design are also studied. Performance of the proposed optimal
PTMDs is demonstrated by numerical studies of the seismic behavior of an
one-story square torsionally-coupled building with different static

( PTMD )之最佳設計。以扭轉耦合樓房結構裝設 PTMD 前後自由度均方位移極小化的方式
計算 PTMD 的系統設計參數並討論 PTMD 之運動方向、最佳裝設樓層以及平面位置。研究結
果發現:可由結構的振態決定 PTMD 的運動方向及最佳裝設樓層與平面位置, 並分析 PTMD
所需之 PTMD 個數。最後,以不同耦合程度之單層近似對稱型扭轉耦合樓房結構受雙向地震
作用下之數值模擬驗證最佳設計之 PTMD 確實能有效降低樓房結構整體的動態反應。
