本研究探討溫度與溼度對於雙層膠被覆光纖之玻璃纖維與膠被覆間界面剪應力強度之影響。溼度會影響界面剪應力強度主要是由於水氣會由光纖的塑膠被覆層擴散到玻璃纖維與塑膠被覆層間的界面。經過數天的時間,水氣的擴散會達穩定狀態。界面剪應力強度的衰退與玻璃纖維與塑膠被覆界面間的水氣有關。本研究結果顯示,界面剪應力強度的衰退量正比於水蒸氣壓的2/3次方。

The humidity and temperature dependence of the interfacial shear strength between the glass fiber and primary coating in double-coated optical fibers is experimentally investigated. The effect of humidity on the interfacial shear strength is resulted from the diffusion of water vapor through the polymeric coatings to the interface between the glass fiber and primary coating. After several days, the diffusion of water vapor reaches the steady state. The degradation of the interfacial shear strength is sensitive to the water vapor on the glass fiber/polymer interface. As a result, the degradation of interfacial shear strength caused by the humidity is proportional to the two-thirds power of the water vapor pressure.
