In this article, to identify the abrupt and dissolve shot transition, we proposed an algorithm of shot change detection based on fuzzy classifier and transition duration refinement. The key to the success of video content analysis is segmentation, which is to divide a complete video stream into several shots for further analysis. The identification of shots is possible with the help of the shot change detection, which is to locate the boundary of two consecutive shots. The proposed scheme can reduce the effect of fast object/camera motion and flashes for shot change detection. Furthermore, to accurately capture the duration of dissolve transition, the transition duration refinement algorithm was proposed. We extracted eight features as the input of fuzzy classifier to detect shot changes. The experimental results demonstrate our proposed scheme can not only detect abrupt and dissolve transitions well but also accurately locate their durations. Our proposed scheme can provide a better performance for abrupt and dissolve detection.
