Afforestation has been widely used as one of important tools for reducing CO2 emission, which emerges the serious global warming crisis. This study focuses on the relationship between the global warming cognition and the plantation intention of the private forest owners in Taiwan by using questionnaire with mail survey method. The questionnaire items, which relate to the cognition of the private forest owners on the global warming issues, are measured by using Likert 6-point scales. Through factor analysis, two dimensions are specified, 'CO2 emissions reduction activity' and 'global warming crisis perception'. The results suggest that the 'CO2 emissions reduction activity' factor positively affects the plantation intention of the private forest owners, but the 'global warming crisis perception' factor seems no significant influence on it. The results imply that global warming cognition correlates with plantation intention. In addition, this study suggests that the government can provide different incentives to landowners according to their different intentions such as public benefit and economic benefit to get better results of policy implementation.
