本試驗使用滿天星Bristol Fairy品種為材料,進行探討微體繁殖及調節開花之問題。微體繁殖試驗以Murashige和Skoog(1962)之培養基為基本配方,取含2對葉原體之莖頂組織為初代培殖體,檢討培養基內重要成份之結果,以Bacto agar 4g/l,sucrose 20g/l,BA 2mg/l,NAA 0.05mg/l最好。含2對葉原體之莖頂,經3週培養後可得15.7個芽體。繼代培養之試驗,以使用Hyponex 1號2g/l,添加NAA 0.05mg/l,BA 2mg/l,Kinetin 1mg/l,sucrose 30g/l,Bacto agar 8g/l之結果最好。3個1.5公分長的芽體,經4週之培養,可得37.6個健全芽體,芽體移出扦插之成活率可達82%。
開花習性之試驗,以24小時長日,4,2小時暗期中斷長日及自然日照處理之結果;以24小時長日之效果最佳,有明顯促進開花作用,4小時及2小時暗期中斷處理之效果次之。長日誘導日數之增加,其促進開花之效果也增加。顯然滿天星為“量的長日植物”(quantitative long day plant)。

Gypsophila paniculata L. cv. 〝Bristol Fairy〞 was used in this experiment. The main nutrient medium and culture condition for the micropropagation was exaimed and improved. When shoot tips with 2 pairs of leaf primodia were grown on a modified Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium with Bacto agar 4g/l, sucrose 20g/l, BA 2mg/l, NAA 0.05mg/l, pH5.5 before autoclaving, at constant 25±3℃, 1500Lux pink fluorescent irradiance for 16 hr. photoperiod, the growth and multiplication of explants was best. The survival ratio of culture for the shoot tip with only dome tissue was 50%. An average of 15.7 shoots per original shoot tip with 2 pairs of leaf promodia were produced after 3 week's culture in the improved medium. During subculture, when shoot with 1.5cm in length was transferred to the medium with Hyponex No. 1 2g/l as inorganic salt, NAA 0.05mg/l, BA 2mg/l+ kinetin 1mg/l, sucrose 30g/l, Bacto agar 8g/l, pH5.5, at constant 25±3℃, 3000Lux pink fluorecent for 16hr photoperiod, the growth and multiplication of shoot was best. An average of 37.6 healthy shoots per 3 original shoots were produced after 4 week's culture in the improved subculture medium. Increasing the light intensity to 9000 Lux during hardening treatment period, the transfer from in vitro to in vivo condition is easier. Survival ratio of plantlet for rooting the shoots under intermittent mist was 82%.
Four photoperiod treatments were compared in gypsophila flowering behavior experiment: (1) a whole night (2) a night break of 4 hours (3) a night break of 2 hours (4) a natural day length. Long day promotes bolting and flowering of gypsophila and photoperiod treatment has a quantitative effect, the longer the photoperiod, the greater the promotion of flowering. Lighting throughout the night promote flowering the best in comparison to the 4 hour's night break. The influence of long day inductive cycles on the promotion of flowering has been demonstrated. The promotive effect of bolting and flowering increase with the no. of inductive cycles. Result of our experiment confirm that Gypsophila paniculata cv. ‵Bristol Fairy′ is a quantitative long day plant.
