The results of the experiment were as follows:
1. Nitrogen deficiency:
The affected plants were short with chlorosis appearing early on the lower leaves.
2. Phosphorus deficiency:
Plants suffered a great decline in growth rate and, therefore, were short. Their leaves were dark-green and fell off easily. The roots were pink to deep-red in color due to the accumulation of pigments.
3. Potassium deficiency:
Necroses was evident in tissues at the edge of the leaves which gave the leaves a wavy look and a tendency to curl inward.
4. Calcium deficiency:
Necroses occurred in marginal tissues of the terminal leaves. The growth of the terminal buds was suppressed, root rot was extensive.
5. Mangnesium deficiency:
Intervainal chlorosis was the general symptoms which first appeared on the lower leaves. In late stage, leave margins began to wilt.
6. Iron deficiency:
In early stage, chlorosis of the leave margins was evident, and then it spreaded to the entire leave. However, the veins of leaves remai
