摘要: 
The laboratory methods of soil science can be adapted for the evaluation of physical and chemical properties of a growing medium, but it is unique that horticultural plants are grown on organic or soilless substrates usually and in containers. The paper reviewed that major physical properties used to describe a container medium or medium component are : bulk density, air- filled porosity, particle size distribution, and water release characteristics. On the other hand, there are four important chemical properties to be considered: pH, soluble salts, soluble nutrients and total nutrients. Those would be useful for horticulture crop growers and researchers.

栽培介質物理和化學性質的測定,可沿用一般土壤測定的方法;但是園藝栽培判質,常為有機或無土判質,又容器栽培非常盛行,自有其特別的地方。本篇討論實驗室分析測定總體密度、充氣孔隙度、粒子大小分布和水分釋方特性等物理性質;以及酸鹼度、可溶性鹽類、水溶性總元素含量等化學性質。這些性質的測定有些需要用貴重的儀器,然而大多數只要簡單的設備便能進行,可供一般栽培家或研究者選擇使用之參考。
