Experiment on the Manufacture of Particleboard from Full-tree of India-Charcoal Trema

The above-ground biomass of seven years old India-Chacoal Trema (Trema orientalis (Linn.) Blume) was analyzed from six trees. The results show 63.85% for trunks, 14.57% for barks, 17.57% for branches and 4.01% for leaves. Thus, if the full-tree utilization process is applied which can increase the using percent about 30-40%.

After the sequential extraction by hexane, benzene, ether, ethanol and hot water, that total extractives of barks is higher than from leaves and from trunks, but the branches is the lowest. The barks contained more ether and hot water extractives, the leaves have more hexane , benzene and ethanol extractives .

The particleboard made from branches of Trema orientalis, which show better properties than that from trunks. The leaves and barks decrease the mechanical properties of particleboard, but it can improve the thickness swelling and water absorption. The full-tree of India-Charcoal Trema (Trema orientalis) can be considered as raw materials for the manufacture of particleboard, because their properties can arrive the standard level of DIN. The economic of the harvest method for full-tree should be studied more further.

由六株七年生之山黃麻,分析其地上部份生物量,幹材約佔 63.85%,樹皮約 14.57% 及樹葉約 4.01%。全株樹利用概可提高利用率 30-40%。連續以正己烷、苯、乙醚、乙醇及熱水抽出,樹皮之抽出物為最高,其次為樹葉,再其次為幹材,樹枝最低。樹皮所含的乙醚及熱水抽出物比其他材料高;而樹葉則以正己烷、苯及乙醇之抽出物,比其他材料多。
