In recent years, most firms strive to pursue a goal of increasing innovation performance. Interfirm alliances is one of the ways to increase innovation performance. In this study, we examine the relationship between interfirm alliances and innovation performance, taking Taiwan listed firms that operated in the semiconductor and computer industry as our samples. We also study three moderators that may affect effectiveness of interfirm alliances-, including knowledge creation strategy, diversification and vertical integration. Our findings show that interfirm alliances indeed increase innovation performance. Besides, employing knowledge creation strategy will significantly enhance the effectiveness of interfirm alliances. However, employing vertical integration strategy will significantly reduce the effectiveness of interfirm alliances.
