According to the latest announcement issued by International Diabetes Federation (IDF), people aging from 20 to 70 who suffer from diabetes reach 382 million in 2013 around the world, and it is estimated that this number will increase to 592 million in 2035. Most of the diabetes patients are at age of 40 to 59. Diabetes is a global public health problem. The disease progresses gradually and slowly without obvious symptoms. Its complications cost a lot, bringing a heavy burden to society and economy. Type 2 diabetes is dominant in the diabetes of Taiwan, approximately accounting for 95%. It is found in recent years that these patients' pathogenicity is associated with chronic inflammation. This study has confirmed that eating probiotics can reduce the symptoms of diabetes, and it is to explore the expression of serum cytokines for patients with type 2 diabetes after their eating probiotics, and to analyze the concentration of serum cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17 and IL-10 .
Results show that there is no significant difference for the concentration of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-17 before and after eating probiotics, the concentration of IL-6 after eating probiotics is lower than that before eating probiotics, nearly reaching significant difference (p=0.052). Besides, the concentration of IL-10 after eating probiotics is lower than that before eating probiotics, having significant difference (p = 0.0006). The research results indicate that eating probiotics adopted in this experiment can change parts of cytokines in the body for diabetes patients with type 2 diabetes, which can be used as the basis and the reference of further study.
