Regular exercise known reduces cardiovascular disease risk. The mechanism is to decrease concentration of plasma cholesterol, triacylglycerol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, and increase high density lipoprotein cholesterol level. Furthermore, regular exercise grade reduces the inflammatory markers and prevents chronic disease caused by low inflammation. However, there were very limited study investigated the influence of detraining on cardiovascular disease risk factors. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effects of short-term detraining on human physiological and biochemistry from the perspective of detraining and cardiovascular disease.
We recruited 12 healthy adults who were regular exercise 3 times/wk, 30 minutes to participate in our research. All subjects were asked to stop exercise for 7 days. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were measured before stop training and 7 days after detraining. The blood samples and saliva samples were collected on detraining day1, 3, and 7. Plasma samples were analyzed triacylglycerol (TG), glucose, total cholesterol (TC), HDL-C, C reactive protein (CRP), cytokines, and saliva samples were analyzed salivary immunoglobulin A (S-IgA). Subjects were asked to maintain their diet as usual.
The results showed that there were significant difference in VO2max (p=0.036), body fat (p=0.007) and TG (p=0.026) after stop training. However, there were no significant difference in other blood biochemical index, cytokines and IgA (p>0.05).
We suggested realizing the influence of short-term detraining can know how important to do regular exercise.
